Truckee July 4th Parade: A Small Town Classic

Truckee July 4th Parade

The Town of Truckee's annual July 4th parade brings history and the vibrant energy of this quaint mountain town to life in one of the Sierra's highest regarded traditional Independence Day parades. This year’s parade theme of Live-Work-Play Truckee! celebrates everyone in the Truckee community that enjoys life in the mountains every day or when visiting.

Featuring a variety of elements, including a pancake breakfast and the pre-parade 'Firecracker Mile', the parade travels over a mile and features numerous floats, parade entries, and special performances. Kids and adults from near and far line the main drag of Historic Downtown Truckee to catch a view of the action - and maybe a few candies or beads tossed from the floats. Performances from numerous local organizations, including the Railroad Regulators, dance troupes and more, are spaced throughout the parade.

All parade entries are considered for special awards and rated for creativity, spirit and more by a panel of local luminaries, including the Town Of Truckee Mayor, Alicia Barr, Andy Barr, Kevin Smith and Amanda Smith. The parade's Masters of Ceremonies are the always witty Jim Simon and Ravn Whitington.

Truckee's 4th of July Parade starts July 4th at 10:00 a.m. and from the northeast corner of Hwy. 89 South (Frates Lane by Mountain Hardware) and Donner Pass Road, traveling 1-1/4 miles down Donner Pass Road into historic Truckee, ending at the corner of Bridge and Church Street around noon. The downtown section of Donner Pass Road will be closed from 9:30 am to the end of parade, approximately 1:00 pm. Viewing areas for spectators will begin east of the 89 South and Donner Pass Road intersection.

The Fire Department Pancake Breakfast will be held at Fire Station 92 located at 11473 Donner Pass Road (next to Wild Cherries) from 8:00 a.m. to 10 am prior to the parade.

The Firecracker Mile will have two waves of runners prior to the parade beginning at 9:40 am from Donner Pass Road in front of US Bank and Tahoe Forest Hospital to the Train Depot.

Parking for the parade is limited in the downtown area.

Special Note & Request: Please have fun and enjoy this Truckee tradition, but also keep the parade safe. Please keep children off the parade route; no water spraying as it's dangerous and slippery for the horses and many floats have equipment that can be damaged by water; and please do not spray silly string - it can damage vintage cars and the Truckee sidewalks.

The Truckee July 4th Parade is produced by the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Town of Truckee with logistical support by Big Blue Adventure, LLC.
