LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV (Nov. 19, 2020)—A coalition of avalanche safety, nonprofit, and winter backcountry organizations have established December 14-18 as the Tahoe-Truckee region’s first backcountry safety awareness week.
Tahoe City, CA - On Thursday, November 19th, Alpenglow Sports is pleased to welcome local guide Dave Nettle as the first speaker of the 15th annual VIRTUAL Winter Speaker Series, presented by Peak Design. Established in 2006, the Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series is a free event designed to motivate, inspire and educate. Traditionally held at Squaw Valley’s Olympic Village Lodge, the Winter Speaker Series is a five-part series that showcases one show per month from November through February.
LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – As a reminder, backcountry visitors should practice proper food and garbage storage and behave appropriately when hiking and backpacking in Bear Country. This summer, wilderness rangers report bears are successfully taking down food-hangs in Desolation Wilderness. Once bears become habituated to human food and garbage they will return and seek it out. Agencies highly recommend using bear resistant canisters when visiting the backcountry.
