Reno Announces Year-Round, Indoor Ski Area & Resort

They have formed a cooperative to build the world's second indoor ski area at a cost of over $23 million. It will be the first such facility in the USA. The construction started some months ago with little fanfare. The site is just north of Highway 80 between Reno and Sparks.

TRPA Buys Ship to House Staff, Offices, and Meeting Space

It has purchased a ship--a used aircraft carrier--from the U.S. Navy for $1 dollar. The ship will allow TRPA staff and officials to move freely around Lake Tahoe.

"We see it as a perfect solution to making TRPA more accessible to citizens as we work on a new, 25-year management plan for the Tahoe Basin," said a spokesperson for TRPA.
