Gala Benefit to Raise Funds to Train Govmt Sign Painters

"We hope to see improved signage by early summer," says the Chair of TCDA.

The highest priority change has to do with the large sign marking the start of the Truckee River just below the dam in Tahoe City. Currently--and for multiple years now--the sign at this important and historic spot reads: Truckee River Outlet. Every local knows, of course, it's the INLET! But according to the records kept by TCPUD, over 300,000 visitors to the Fanny Bridge have been mis-informed by the sign since California Parks put it in place on the spot where Lake Tahoe is transformed into the Truckee River.

Other signs that are candidates for improvement include the one by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation at the north end of the dam (see picture) and the one on the Tahoe City Commons that (still) indicates that Gray Davis is Governor of California.

The Gala Benefit will be staged at Jake's-on-the-Lake on the fifth Friday night in April from 6-8 p.m. Donations for the sign-school tuitions will be collected at the door by Scouts.
