Sugar Bowl Extends Season Into May

Sixty-eight inches of new snow has fallen on the slopes of Sugar Bowl Resort in the month of April alone, bringing its season-to-date snow total to 782 inches. With more than a 19-foot snow base stacked up at the resort atop Donner Summit near Lake Tahoe, resort officials have decided to extend the season until May 7, 2017.

NORDEN, Calif. – April 20, 2017 – Sixty-eight inches of new snow has fallen on the slopes of Sugar Bowl Resort in the month of April alone, building on the resort’s already impressive base and bringing its season-to-date snow total to 782 inches. With more than a 19-foot snow base stacked up at the resort atop Donner Summit near Lake Tahoe, resort officials have decided to extend the season until May 7, 2017. Daily operations will continue through April 23. For the final two weeks of the season, Sugar Bowl will be open Friday through Sunday only, April 28-30 and May 5-7. Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to check Sugarbowl.com for updates that will include scheduled lifts and terrain through closing day.

“This season has literally been the winter that keeps on giving,” said Jon Slaughter, director of marketing and sales at Sugar Bowl Resort and Royal Gorge Cross Country. “We are closing in on the 800-inch mark, and the skiing and riding continues to be phenomenal. For those who haven’t made it up this spring, it’s not too late – the winter season is still well underway!”

The National Weather Service forecast calls for snow to continue this week, with the chance for accumulation expected through Thursday before high pressure builds over the weekend. For the next three Saturdays, themed events will be offered from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Village Deck, adding to the fun of spring skiing and riding at Sugar Bowl:

— Saturday, April 22 - Bluegrass Feast-ival. Guests are invited to enjoy bacon-themed tapas, bar specials and bluegrass music slopeside.

— Saturday, April 29 – Red Neck Fusion. Specials will include smoked brisket sandwiches, pork ribs, baked beans, and cole slaw, along with Jack Daniels and a blind beer grab. Live southern rock music will be performed by The Jonathan Hennion Band.

— Saturday, May 6 – Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Live music on the Village Lodge Deck plus Mexican food and drink specials throughout the day.

Sugar Bowl is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. conditions permitting. Season passes for the 2017-18 season are available for purchase starting at $269, offering lift access for the remainder of the current season and all of next.
