Autumn slides toward winter at Tahoe

In most respects T.T. was considered a non-resident, regular by virtue of his years of visits, nautical demeanor, happy eyes, and love of wooden boats. T.T.

If the party had made it before the snows of winter, Donner Lake perhaps would still be called Truckee Lake, and Donner Summit would probably be named after some other party that tested the mettle of the Sierra. Instead, the Donner Party confronted one of the biggest and earliest series of snowstorms on record, and the rest is history.

Scarecrow Art in Tahoe City

Names of other scarecrows noted by the judges were: Gardner Stan, Halloween Hayride Jane, Pot Belly Pete, and Best Local's Potato Salad. All the scarecrows will be on parade until the end of October.

The Sierra gets blasted by some of the most intense winter storms in the world. The most powerful of these Pacific weather systems boast an atmospheric circulation exceeding one thousand miles across. Such systems can generate wind gusts approaching 200 miles per hour over mountain ridges and produce snowfall measured by the yard.
