Can Satellites Monitor Climate Change?

Satellites have been used to monitor the earth for decades. Fast forward to today: these sophisticated remote sensing technologies are being challenged to monitor climate change and more importantly the world's efforts to positively impact climate change.

In an April 21st speaking appearance at Resort at Squaw Creek, presented by the Palisades Tahoe Institute and the Truckee Tahoe Earth Day organization, aerospace and technology expert Douglas Helmuth will discuss the highlights of what has been discovered about the earth over the last 15 years using satellites.

Helmuth will also discuss several new initiatives that the 'world climate change community' is currently exploring, the requirements and challenges these initiatives represent as well as the benefits of monitoring the results.

Attendees will have a unique opportunity to gain insights on the key players including governments to policy makers to scientists to the aerospace industry and learn about the terminology used in today's climate change discussions.

Discussions will include a history of weather satellites, the GPS constellation and several Google Earth enabling examples. A number of websites will be highlighted for the audience to discover and explore on their own or with their families.

Douglas Helmuth has more than 30 years experience in three different aerospace businesses, with 8 years immersed in the commercial computer server industry. He has wide exposure to customers and user needs across both business sectors and has been invariably drawn to the most difficult challenges. Helmuth is a devoted advocate of small motivated groups that can achieve eye-opening results. He holds degrees in electrical engineering and has pursued professional development in technology disciplines and is now as an 'expert' instructor.
