Lecture by Scott Lankford
Thursday, March 31, 2011

Why did Mark Twain hate the word "Tahoe" even though he praised the lake to the skies? To answer that question, Scott Lankford, author of the new book "Tahoe beneath the Surface" (Heyday 2010) will guide us on a slide/lecture journey through Twain's early years in Tahoe Territory, beginning with young Sam Clemens' arrival in 1861 and culminating in his transformation into the author known as Mark Twain. New research concerning the lake's pivotal role in Twain's Civil War era transformation will make this a lecture to remember. Even lifelong Twain aficionados will find some surprises.  At the Mark Twain Cultural Center.  7PM.
