Sunday, May 22, 2011

Kite enthusiasts and children of all ages will let fly from noon to 5 p.m., on Sunday, May 22 at Rancho San Rafael Park during the 2nd Annual High Sierra Family Kitefest sponsored by CAN Prevent, the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Task Force, and Reno Media Group. The Kitefest is free, open to the public, and begins with a free kite give-away to the first 250 children under 18 that arrive at the event. Kite flying demonstrations by representatives of New Tech Kites will highlight the event and local flyers are encouraged to help fill the sky with their own colorful diamonds, deltas, parafoils and stunt kites.

In addition to free kites, the event is also featuring health and emergency preparedness information including free evacuation totebags, backpacks and storage containers with instructions and lists of materials needed to increase everyone’s odds of survival during an emergency. Over 500 free emergency preparedness starter kits will be distributed on a first-
come, first-served basis beginning at 1 p.m. on the day of the kite festival.
