NTHS Jazz Band “Tribute to Big Band Swing”
40s Night Fundraiser Slated for Jan. 26 in Kings Beach

Imagine gazing at Lake Tahoe as a stunning full moon casts its iridescent spell. Now wouldn’t it be wonderful if Glenn Miller’s big-band hit “Moonlight Serenade” accompanied this reverie?

Happily, musical reveries like this abound as the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band presents 40s Night – A Tribute to Big Band Swing on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 7 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at the North Tahoe Event Center, Kings Beach,

An iconic Tahoe community event, 40s Night brings to life an era when all of America was listening and dancing to the same music: Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey, to name a few. On radio, in theaters and ballrooms, the big bands – not unlike the NTHS Jazz Band – garnered record crowds. This body of music did much to sustain national morale during World War II, the pivotal event of the 1940s.

This homage to “the greatest generation” is also a key fundraiser for the NTHS Jazz Band’s goodwill tour in March. Under the direction of talented bandleader and principal jokester Dean Nordby, this energetic student group plans to perform at a variety of schools, hospitals and senior centers during its spring Goodwill Tour.

Attendees are encouraged to don 1940s garb or at the very least bring a swingin’ attitude.

Tickets are $20 per person and include hearty appetizers and a no host bar. Attendees must be 21 or older. Buy tickets from any NTHS Jazz Band member or at the door. For more information email: annlindemann2@gmail.com.
