DONNER SUMMIT, Calif. (Nov. 11, 2014) — Sugar Bowl Resort will open for the season on Nov. 26, with top-to-bottom skiing and riding on Mt. Lincoln, the resort’s highest peak.

Resort officials are eyeing a favorable forecast that predicts a snowy end to November. The resort has also upgraded its snowmaking system, with a new mid-mountain pumphouse that allows the resort to make snow on Mt. Lincoln and Jerome Hill at the same time, as well as lay down a blanket of man-made snow from the top to the bottom of Mt. Lincoln.

The 320-square-foot pumphouse manufactured by Torrent houses two 125-horsepower motors that turn 500-gallon-per-minute pumps, pressurizing the snowmaking lines to 550 pounds per square inch. The snowmaking upgrade has allowed the resort to add 25 more snowmaking guns to the mountain this fall, part of Sugar Bowl Resort’s ongoing, extensive investment in new chairlifts, new facilities and new programs.

The resort plans to continue the snowmaking upgrades next year as well, adding full snowmaking to Rahlves' Run during the summer of 2015.

If temperatures and weather cooperate, Sugar Bowl Resort plans to open three lifts with top-to-bottom skiing and riding from the top of Mt. Lincoln to the base of Mt. Disney. The resort plans to operate Mt. Lincoln Express, Christmas Tree and Nob Hill chairlifts during opening weekend. All access to early-season skiing and riding will be via the Village gondola, through the snowbound Village to the Nob Hill lift.

Ticket prices for opening weekend have not been determined. Sugar Bowl season passes are on sale, starting at $269 for adults. Season passholders also receive free lift tickets to Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows with their purchase, and automatic enrollment in the resort’s CORE Rewards program, a points-based program offering rewards such as dining, ski lessons, retail items or even a massage.
