Squaw To Open Up New Runs
Palisades Tahoe is underway with a new Forest Health Project to expand and enhance its lower mountain skiable terrain. The forest-thinning project will remove thousands of dead or diseased trees in the Red Dog region of the lower mountain and open up a variety of new runs for skiers and snowboarders.
The effort is slated to improve the natural habitat, reduce the risk of wildfire, and provide access to previously un-accessible tree skiing and riding on the lower mountain. As a result of the project, skiers and riders can expect nearly 100 acres of enhanced skiable terrain this season.
Located across the north-facing Red Dog region, the project area includes a large section to be called 'Red Dog Glades' located between Poulsen's Gully on the east, and the Far East Express chairlift on the west. In addition, a new area west of the Red Dog face, to be named the 'Paris Glades' wil open up terrain below the Champs Elysees trail. Lastly, an area off the beaten path, below and west of 'Heidi's' run will be opened up and called 'Heidi's Glades'.
The terrain, all rated upper-intermediate to expert, will eliminate some current lengthy traverses and provide skiers and snowboarders with a new selection of exceptional north-facing terrain. This will be particularly appealing on a powder day, while the upper mountain gets open following snow safety procedures.
