Take A Walk In The Park This Holiday Weekend
Looking for a few alternative activities this holiday weekend in Tahoe? For many, a fun, relaxing and enjoyable walk is the perfect thing. California State Parks and towns and neighborhoods in North Tahoe/Truckee area offer a variety of beautiful and inspiring options with clear trails at the ready.
Here is a list of favorite State Parks hikes provided by Sierra State Parks Foundation:
Donner Memorial State Park
The flat roads, paths and trails are clear at lake level this holiday weekend and perfect for a walk along the interpretive trail at Donner Memorial State Park. The newly renovated Emigrant Trail Museum is open year-round with exhibits about both human and natural history in the Truckee/Lake Tahoe area. More Info...
Sugar Pine Point
Walk along the shoreline at Sugar Pine Point State Park and gaze at incredible views and the tallest pine trees in the world, all among the historic buildings of the Hellman-Ehrman Estate. Or take the General Creek Trail loop through Olympic Meadows, where the nordic skiing events were held during the 1960 Winter Olympics. More Info...
Rubicon Trail
For something a little more agressive, but very rewarding, hike the Rubicon Trail from DL Bliss State Park into Emerald Bay (or the opposite direction). The trail is snow free right now, and in great conditon, providing one-of-a-kind views of Lake Tahoe and the spectacular shoreline. More Info...
Other Fun Walks & Hikes
Some other fun walks and hikes around the region are closer to town, or even in town. Here are some suggestions:
1. Downtown Truckee - A stroll through Historic Downtown Truckee is a step back in time, with all the comforts and attractions of today's modern world. Watch the trains roll through while browsing numerous shops, or sipping at one of Truckee's bars or restaurants.
2. Downtown Tahoe City - The quaint lakeside town of Tahoe City offers both cobblestone sidewalks and a lakeside trail, with end-to-end strolls of under a mile. Take a look in Tahoe City's myriad shops, or stop for a bite at a lakeside restaurant.
3. Kings Beach - Getting up close and actually touching Lake Tahoe is akin to reaching the ocean and putting your foot in the sand. It's just something you have to do. A great spot to access the beach is the Kings Beach State Recreation Area which provides access to wide open beaches, and long walks at the water's edge. King's Beach, a mountain situated 'beach town' has a laid back, authentic vibe, and plenty of distractions for food, shops and attractions.
Get out and enjoy all Lake Tahoe has to offer this weekend!
