Up To Two Feet of Snow Falls In Tahoe

A powerful winter storm blew through North Lake Tahoe Sunday night and Monday, Ocotber 28th, leaving area ski resorts and mountains around the region blanketed in up to two feet of new snow. Tahoe TV's video montage captures a few visuals of the fall-to-winter transition overnight.

Sugar Bowl Resort, on Donner Summit, reported 24 inches of snow at the top and 18 inches at the resort’s base. Alpine Meadows and Palisades Tahoe reported 14 inches and 10 inches of snow overnight on Sunday respectively, and snow continued falling on the resorts Monday.

The new snow signals the fast-approaching onset of Tahoe ski season. Boreal Mountain Resort, traditionally the first Tahoe resort to open its slopes, is currently blowing snow from its snowmaking machines to augment the snowstorm totals, but has not officially announced an opening date. Palisades Tahoe has a scheduled opening day of Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Season passes are on sale at all North Lake Tahoe resorts, and some have yet to raise prices from off-season levels. Sugar Bowl Resort season pass prices do not increase until Oct. 31.

The weather forecast calls for scattered showers Tuesday and clearing midweek, with a slight chance of snow again this coming weekend.
