Truckee Thursdays Heading Into 6th Year

Downtown Truckee Thursdays, one of the region's most popular and well-attended community gatherings, begins its 6th year on June 13th. The weekly event consumes historic downtown Truckee every week except July 4th through August 29th.

Truckee Thursdays is a feel-good event that beckons the community to enjoy some exuberant downtown summertime energy. Offering live music, art, Foothills Farmers Market, children’ activities, a beer garden and vendors of all ilk, this lively weekly event is on both locals’ and visitors’ must-do list. In addition, attendees will find sidewalk sales and other activities hosted by downtown merchants, offering the opportunity to reacquaint with all downtown Truckee has to offer.

Each week showcases a different non-profit organization providing the opportunity to highlight and inform the public of their services. The 2013 opening day featured non-profit is Relay for Life.

Voted Best Summer Event three (3) years in a row, Truckee Thursdays has become one of the region's top events. “Truckee Thursdays has grown tremendously in a few short years”, says Event Manger, Cheri Sprenger.  We are excited to welcome many new vendors to the event this year, along with many returning artists.”

A number of new elements will be introduced this year.  “Our goal each year is to continue to improve the event and provide something new and unique”, says Julie Huck, Truckee Thursdays committee member and downtown business owner.  Newly added is the “Corner Stage”, located at the corner of Bridge and DPR, which will provide live entertainment ranging from music to improv.  “We wanted to add some entertainment at this end of the event that people could enjoy while dining outside at Bar of America and Moody’s or while strolling the great shops and vendors”, Huck added.  Additionally, new this year is a bike valet service located at the Historic Truckee Jail on Jibboom Street hosted by the Truckee Donner Historical Society. For a token donation to the society, docents will assist with bike parking during the event each week. Locals are encouraged to take advantage of this new service and ride their bikes.

Free parking starts at 5 p.m. every Thursday, allowing folks stroll through the downtown district, drop into its interesting shops, sample food and wine, listen to music at the train depot and catch up with friends and neighbors.
