Steinbeck at Tahoe: Hatching His First Novel

The upcoming North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce Chamber Business Mixer will feature a presentation by author Scott Lankford revealing John Steinbeck's little-known first novel, penned in Lake Tahoe. Lankford shared a preview of the story in a recent Tahoe TV interview (above).

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce will hold their next Chamber Business Mixer at the UC Davis Tahoe City Field Station (also known as the Historic Fish Hatchery) Tuesday, May 31 at 2400 Lake Forest Road in Tahoe City.

UC Davis is sponsoring the program titled, “Steinbeck at Tahoe: Hatching His First Novel,” will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The mixer will run from 5 to 7 p.m. with appetizers and a no-host bar.  A $10 donation per person is requested.

The program is presented by Scott Lankford, Professor of English at Foothill College in the San Franciso Bay Area and author of Tahoe: Beneath the Surface. Lankford will discuss Steinbeck writing his first novel, Cup of Gold, over a long winter at Lake Tahoe’s Cascade Lake, near Emerald Bay. The novel was written just prior to Steinbeck taking a job at the State Fish Hatchery in Tahoe City where he met and wooed his first wife.
