San Clemente, CA. (January 20, 2011) - POWDER Magazine is pleased to announce the High Fives Foundation as the benefitting non-profit for the 2011 POWDER Video Awards and Reader Poll (PVA's) presented by Samsung and Verizon Wireless. On behalf of the event and sponsors of the PVA's all proceeds of official merchandise sales during the event will be donated to High Fives.
High Fives Foundation works to raise money and awareness for athletes who have suffered a life-altering injury while pursuing their dream in the winter action sports community. "High Fives is a fantastic program and we are proud to support them. They are a special team of people with a unified mission," said POWDER Publisher, Ashley Otte. "Roy and his team are dedicated to helping athletes who have sustained serious injuries. They are a motivating force; their goal is to get them back on the snow. We're honored to have them as our partner for this season and look forward helping the foundation grow for years to come."
Founded by Roy Tuscany, the foundation became official on February 9th, 2009. In 2010 they not only grew at a rate that exceeded all expectations, but successfully raised funds, secured alternative treatments and aided in the recovery of eight athletes. Their mission is to continue to grow and become a nationwide organization that effectively acts as an umbrella for those that participate (and get hurt) in the sports we love so dearly.
"High Fives is truly honored by the support of POWDER Magazine in spreading the word of the Foundation to their community of readers, followers, and supporters. They are the best magazine in winter sports," said President and Co-Founder Tuscany. Whether participating individuals desire to rehabilitate and recover and return to the sport that they love or to positively focus on moving towards a new goal with their disability, the proceeds from this year's PVA's will help the foundation reach their goal of helping 15 athletes in 2011.
Special thanks to the sponsors of the 2011 POWDER Video Awards and Reader Poll: Samsung and Verizon Wireless, Aspen/Snowmass, Red Bull, GoPro and The North Face.

About The Powder Video Awards and Reader Poll:
The POWDER Video Awards were born as the first show of its kind to acknowledge the artistry and athleticism in ski film and photography. A year later we added to this format and established the first-ever Reader Poll to recognize the seasonal feats of skiing heroes. This year the event enters its 11th year of recognizing those that continue to progress the sport and change the perception of skiing. For more information visit powderawards.com.
