Reno & Southwest Air Celebrate 20 Years of 'Luv'
On Monday, Nov. 15th, Southwest Airlines and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport marked two decades of Southwest's service to Reno-Tahoe with a community-themed parade at the airport.
To commemorate the anniversary, Southwest Employees joined in a parade of business partners from across northern Nevada’s tourism industries who continue to benefit from Southwest’s history and investment in the market.
“We’ve given a lift to Reno-Tahoe for 20 years with our low fares and outstanding Customer Service and we’re just getting started,” said Daryl Krause, former Southwest Station Leader for the airport, now Senior Vice President Procurement.
The parade in front of the terminal building featured Southwest Employees, other local dignitaries along with Reno Mayor Bob Cashell, University of Nevada Spirit Team, McQueen High School Marching Band and other tourism industry professionals.
“Everybody loves a parade and everybody here certainly loves Southwest’s contributions to our community,” Krys Bart, President and CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority said. “Southwest’s presence here has created countless jobs throughout the Reno-Tahoe area.”
Southwest began service from Reno-Tahoe International Airport on November 15, 1990, with a dozen nonstop departures to Las Vegas and Oakland. Today, Southwest has 28 nonstop departures to 12 cities: Boise, Chicago (Midway), Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles (LAX), Oakland, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Jose and Seattle/Tacoma.
Based in Dallas, Southwest currently operates more than 3,100 flights a day and has nearly 35,000 Employees systemwide.
