Tahoe Screening of 'The Story' Follows Packed Hollywood Premiere
The exclusive Lake Tahoe and Northern California premiere of the new-style ski film 'The Story' from the Ski Channel Film Tour will take place this Friday night, October 29th, on the heels of a hugely successful Hollywood premiere.
The Ski Channel Film Tour transcended its own genre Sunday night October 24th as some 1500 athletes, celebrities, skiers and new found snow sport enthusiasts braved Hollywood traffic and pouring rain to pack the Mann's Chinese Theatre for a sold out world premiere of "The Story."
"The Story", the first feature ski film from The Ski Channel joins the ranks of "The Wizard of OZ" and "Star Trek" in terms of films that have had sold out world premieres at the landmark Hollywood Chinese Theatre.
The 7 pm showing exceeded the iconic theatre's 1250-seat capacity saw premiere-goers spilling into the aisles which prompted a second "overflow" showing of "The Story" at 9:45 pm. As snow sport filmmakers will testify, for 1300+ people to come out for a ski or snowboard film premiere in sunny LA is uncanny.
The unprecedented LA ski film premiere turnout was trumped only by the enthusiastic and seemingly unanimous praise for the film as ski and entertainment industry insiders found themselves absorbing and appreciating the same work of art together.
In true Hollywood fashion, there were an abundance of stars walking the snow-covered red carpet Sunday night. Donna Mills, Lisa Loeb, Dawn Lewis, Linda Thompson, Ernie Hudson, Don Felder, Brandon Jenner, Shari Headly, Greg Louganis, Tara Lupinski, and Chris "Uncle E" Ernst were among the actors, musicians, athletes and entertainers who came out for the premiere.
However, the night belonged to Bobby Brown (2-time X-Games Gold Medalist), Mike Douglas (Godfather of Freeskiing) and fellow world-class skiers Chris Benchetler, Eric Pollard, Kristi Leskinen, Lynsey Dyer and Reggie Crist, along with most of the films' cast and crew.
Countless moments throughout "The Story" incensed cheers and applause from the audience including Reggie, Mike Douglas and Cody Townsend getting towed into big waves on skis in Hawaii, Reggie Crist's Haines, AK first descent, Leif Whitaker successfully summiting Mt. Everest, and Jamie Pierre skiing off a 250 ft cliff and surviving. Two-time Paralympic Gold Medalist Stephani Victor's tale of courage and perseverance was so powerful, it drove many an audience member to tears.
Following the success and warm receptions at the world premiere it is clear that the tales "The Story" tells are infectious and The Ski Channel Film Tour message of mountain sport infatuation is spreading quickly.
"The Story" is touring the country over the next three months, visiting locations nationwide. The Lake Tahoe premiere showing will take place Friday, October 29th at the Crystal Bay Casino (Click here for details and tickets). The movie will also soon be available on DVD and high definition Blu-ray.
