Tahoe Resorts A-to-Z: Tahoe Donner

It’s easy to call Lake Tahoe the last unforked pea on the plate of American snow riding. More and more Tahoe resorts might be mirroring the mainstream, painting a canvas of haves and haves more, but don’t kid yourself: No other resort destination in North America encompasses such a wide array of world class slopes, abundant snowfall, pristine vistas and sparkling amenities. Moreover, there are more chair lifts to ride in the Tahoe Basin than in the entire state of Colorado and four out of five days are sunny. Winter temperatures average around 29 degrees, and when it snows, which is often this early season, the flakes fall thick and fast, piling into soft mounds on the upper portion of discolored mountain peaks and setting the stage for exceptional skiing and snowboarding.

Since 1970, Tahoe Donner has offered family fun and instruction in a safe, uncrowded and convenient environment. The small Truckee-based, 4-lift resort guarantees no more than six students per group lesson to insure a close instruction ratio. Its 600 acres also offers powder stashes that last sometimes days after a storm. Tahoe Donner offers a variety of season-long programs for ages ranging from three years old to seniors. Our programs are a great way to learn new skills, make new friends, and have a great time taking advantage of the Sierra Nevada winter. For children ages 3 to 6 who are just starting out, try our TD Tykes program, the local's favorite place to teach kids to ski. For kids aged 5 to 13, Tahoe Donner’s recreational ski and snowboard teams, are a great way to build skills in the sport and make friends in a fun environment.

What’s New: The resort has added two new on-snow programs to take kids to the next level of fun. Sundays, children can participate in the Snowflakes Speedsters program. On Tuesdays, kindergarten age tykes enjoy increased snowplay at the Tahoe Donner Tykes afternoon class.
