Get On Up at the Palisades Tahoe Mountain Run

The 30th Annual Palisades Tahoe Mountain Run will take place on August 7th at Palisades Tahoe USA. A benefit event for the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, this is one of Tahoe's top feel-good events of the summer.

Participants come in all ages, shapes, and sizes. Runners, walkers and kids in strollers join in to make the 3.6 mile, 2000 vertical foot trek from the base of Palisades Tahoe, at elevation 6200', to High Camp, at the top of the mountain, elevation 8200'.

Tahoe TV had an opportunity to tag along with local writer Robert Frolich, a cancer survivor, as he made the journey up the mountain in 2009 amidst rounds of chemotherapy and surgeries. He will return in 2010 for another feat of strength and tenacity.

For those who don't wish to push themselves too hard but still want to support the cause, you can take the Cable Car up to High Camp and go on a lovely self guided flower walk in the high mountain meadows of Palisades Tahoe.

The event is part of the La Sportiva Mountain Cup series. In the tradition of the event - 20% of funds raised from The Squaw Mountain Run go to Tahoe Forest Cancer Center (www.tahoecancercenter.com) to help cancer patients afford the care they need. In the last three years the event has donated over $7,000 to the Cancer Center.
