Scale Replica of Tower of Nations Unveiled

A scale replica of the 1960 Winter Olympics Tower of Nations, created for the Olympic Heritage Celebration, was unveiled Wednesday, January 6th, at Sugar Pine Point State Park.

Members of California State Parks, the West Shore Association, the Olympic Heritage Celebration Committee and the Palisades Tahoe Museum Foundation gathered near the carriage house at Sugar Pine Point State Park for the unveiling of a scale replica of the Tower of Nations.

The structure, which at one-quarter scale, stands 20 feet tall, will stand temporarily at the State Park location near the Carriage House, and then move nearby to the start area of the Olympic Nordic Trails on January 8th after the start of the Olympic Heritage Celebration's Commmorative Relay. It will remain at the nordic trail location through the celebration which ends on January 17th. Eventually, the tower will be moved to a permanent home near the cross-country ski trailhead.

Spectators are invited to come see the tower during the Olympic Heritage Celebration, January 8-17th. Numerous celebration events will take place at Sugar Pine Point State Park and the original Olympic nordic trails.

The replica was designed and built by volunteers Joe and John Erman, of J&J Fabricators in Homewood, with graphics designed and printed gratis by Frank Tenoria and Doug Byrne of Atomic Printing. Funding for materials was provided by the West Shore Association, Sierra State Parks Foundation and the Palisades Tahoe Ski Museum Foundation – Olympic Heritage Celebration Committee.
