Rainin', snainin', blowin', snowin' - wee haw! A nice storm blast has put the hurry-up on the winter preparations this week, and there's no shortage of fun distractions either!

Hello eager skiers and riders! Welcome to the Get Out! Reno-Tahoe Weekly Planner for Oct. 14-18, 2009. Here's a look at some top picks for the days ahead...

The Tahoe City Harvest Festival continues through this weekend. Watch for scarecrows blowing around the North Shore.

Wednesday, Oct 14:
Sierra Nevada College and the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center present the World Water Issues Film Festival at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village.

Thursday, Oct 15:
Tahoe City lakeside Farmer's Markets continue at Commons Beach. Thursday evening, Dragonfly hosts a Dinner and Art Auction to benefit the KidZone, and Jake's on the Lake holds a Harvest Festival 5-Course Food & Wine Pairing Dinner.

Friday, Oct 16:
Friday night, Tahoe City hosts it's first fall movie night, with a screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Boatworks Mall Marina Green, followed by a Rocky Horror Dance Party at Lakeside Pizza.

Coyote Moon hosts their Oktoberfest celebration Friday night with live Bavarian music and, you guessed it, beer.

And Cottonwoood hosts a Truckee Trails fundraiser with music and dancing featuring foot stompin', booty shakin' bluegrass from Montana Slim.

This Weekend:
Northstar at Tahoe hosts the Collegiate National Mountain Bike Championships, and Tahoe Art League presents Art Expo at locations around South Lake Tahoe.

Saturday, Oct. 17:
SIGBA presents a guided Green Building Tour at locations around Truckee and North Tahoe. Harvest Festival continues with the Pumpkin Patch Carnival at the Rideout Community Center.

Sunday, Oct. 18:
Squaw Valley Institute presents a dynamic program by author Greg Mortenson at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe. The Thunderbird Lodge presents their October Winemakers Dinner.

ON THE MUSIC FRONT...
Alice Cooper
screams through Tahoe with a Theater of Death performance at Harrah's Tahoe on Friday night. Moody's lines up the jazz with the Mitch Marcus Quintet both Friday and Saturday. The Crystal Bay Casino presents a very special show with guitar legend Adrian Belew Friday night in the Crown Room, followed by a free blues show with JC Smith on Saturday night.
