Wooden Boats Grace North Shore
The event gives the public the opportunity to appreciate the beauty and the history of vintage wooden boats for three days, August 9-11. The stamps will give the world a continuing taste of Lake Tahoe and its historic boats.
The stamp series, entitled "Vintage Mahogany Speedboats," will feature photographs of Dispatch (1931 GarWood from Carnelian Bay, Calif.), Duckers (a 1954 Chris-Craft from Loomis, Calif.), Frolic (a 1915 Hutchinson Brothers launch from Danville, Calif.) and the famous Thunderbird (a custom designed 1939 vessel moored at the Thunderbird Lodge on Tahoe's East Shore). Thunderbird, with its huge aircraft engines, is still one of the fastest and biggest boats on Lake Tahoe.
