Tahoe Time: More Summer Music Than Ever

North Lake Tahoe takes its music seriously, and this summer's lineup is going big, indoors and out, with a variety of concerts, headliners and festivals, running through September.

The new episode of Tahoe Time takes a look at some of the top picks for this summer's smorgasbord of music and events around Lake Tahoe.

Reno is ARtown Through July
Right next door, Reno hosts one of the country's most eclectic and diverse cultural experiences, ARTown, with events, displays, concerts, performances, and activites every day through July.

Free Weekly Summer Concerts
Locals and visitors alike flock to outdoor live performances – free of charge – nearly every night of the week (Mondays are quiet, for now).

Sundays start the week with a beat at Tahoe City’s Concerts at Commons Beach featuring a wide mix of acts performing steps from the water.

Tuesdays are Bluesdays at the Village at Palisades Tahoe starting with John Nemeth July 5 and featuring special deals and discounts on shopping and dining.

There's live music every Wednesday with Music in the Park at the Truckee Regional Park and Truckee Thursdays (beginning June 16) brings live music and a lively gathering to Historic Downtown Truckee.

Kings Beach throws Lakeside Fridays starting July 1 with live music and dancing on the sand. Palisades Tahoe USA has also announced the new KT Tribute Concert Series, held the first Friday of July, August and September. The free concerts featuring 'tribute' bands are held under the legendary peak of KT-22 starting July 1 with STUNG – A Tribute to the Police. The Village at Northstar also holds a variety of live music on weekends. Events and times are subject to change.

In North Lake Tahoe’s historic casino corridor, the Crystal Bay Casino offers a host of free concerts throughout the week, as well as ticketed shows from national touring acts. This is one of the region's finest venues, with an intimate setting and exceptional sound.

Summer Headliner Events
There are also a number of fabulous ticketed musical events held throughout the region this summer. In addition to its popular Shakespeare on the Beach, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival now provides a Monday music series at the scenic Sand Harbor Beach State Recreation Area just south of Incline Village on Lake Tahoe's east shore. This summer’s calendar is the best of the best with the Reno Philharmonic performing Broadway on the Beach July 18, Mumbo Gumbo August 1 and Jelly Bread August 15.

On the picturesque Truckee River, River Ranch Lodge holds its annual Summer Concert Series with Zepparella July 22 and Great American Taxi August 4.

The Lake Tahoe Music Festival is one of the summer’s must-attend events with a variety of musical performances, including the Blues Traveler July 21, Colbie Caillat August 4 and Michael Bolton August 25 at the Village at Northstar.

In addition to its free events, the Crystal Bay Club brings in ticketed performers, including Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute band, July 2, as well as Delhi 2 Dublin, July 16, that hosts gritty hip hop and electronic beats with traditional Indian influences and Celtic sounds. A locals’ favorite, 80s Dance Party Tainted Love, plays August 13, with the “Avant Cellist” Zoe Keating on August 18.

The Robert Cray Band will perform August 13 on the driving range next to the Trout Creek Recreation Center at Tahoe Donner in Truckee. The Grammy-award winning Cray is considered to be one of the most impressive vocalists and guitarists on the contemporary rhythm and blues scene.

Palisades Tahoe USA has Big Head Todd and the Monsters playing Sunday, July 3 and admission is free.

Summer Music Festivals
The Village at Northstar hosts the annual Beerfest & Bluegrass July 2 with more than 20 breweries and music with the Dead Winter Carpenters. There is also a complimentary shuttle to downtown Truckee and the Kings Beach/Crystal Bay area.

Namaste in North Lake Tahoe this summer with the ultimate in yoga throwdowns as the popular Wanderlust Festival returns to the scenic valley of Palisades Tahoe July 28-31. In addition to yoga sessions and wellness programs, the event will also host the positive vibrations of Michael Franti and Spearhead, the electronic dance party mashups of Girl Talk and the ecstatic chants of Jai Uttal. There will also be plenty of food and beverage vendors, art instillations, ambient performances and chill-out lounges.

Palisades Tahoe USA is also hosting the 10th Annual Art, Wine & Classical Guitar Music Festival the weekend of July 16-17 with two performance stages and 20 local and regional fine artists and crafters, as well as the 10th Annual Brews, Jazz & Funk Fest the weekend of August 13-14, with headliner Leo Nocetelli "The Meters Experience" featuring Bill "The Buddha" Dickens.
