Tahoe City Launches 150th Anniversary Celebration

Tahoe City is celebrating its 150th Anniversary with an ongoing series of special events this fall including "Tahoe City Day" being held Thursday, August 8th, commemorating the actual day in 1863 that what is now known as Tahoe City was surveyed and recorded.

According to public records, the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society, and the Tahoe City Public Utility District, the place now recognized as Tahoe City, was first surveyed and recorded by W. Taft on August 8, 1863.

Tahoe City Day - August 8th
'Tahoe City Day' being held this Thursday, August 8th, will recognize the date and celebrate the Tahoe City community with a "Waterfront Parade" and Tahoe City Town Party.

The Tahoe City Waterfront Parade will take place at 5:00 p.m. and invites the community to dress up in their favorite "Tahoe City Memory" costume and join in a parade along the bike path from the Lighthouse/Safeway Center to Commons Beach.

Immediately following the parade, the Tahoe City Town Party will be held at the Tahoe City Golf Course. This event includes a barbecue and live music by local band, 'Groove Foundry'.

All are welcome at both events and invited to come celebrate Tahoe City's history and vibrant community.

Ongoing Celebration & Labor Day Weekend Events
The overall 2013 celebration is designed as an “open and ongoing celebration and recognition” of the anniversary, with a series of special events slated for Labor Day weekend.

The Tahoe City sesquicentennial coincides with several other notable anniversaries, including the 75th anniversary of the Tahoe City Public Utility District, the 100th anniversary of the Tahoe City Outlet Dam, Truckee’s 150th Anniversary, as well as the state of Nevada’s sesquicentennial.

“Our goal is to build historic awareness, current day recognition, and community pride,” commented Eric Brandt, one of the celebration’s coordinators. “Anywhere you look and everywhere you go around Tahoe City for the rest of the year will shout ‘happy 150th anniversary’.”
