Tahoe City Fine Arts and Crafts Festival Continues

Set on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe City Fine Arts and Crafts Festival, now in its second weekend, gives visitors a special opportunity to meet with more than 45 artisans and craftspeople showcasing a wide variety of arts and crafts including photography, oil paintings, ceramic vessels, jewelry and much more.

Providing a unique venue for patrons to view original handmade creations while enjoying the outdoors, this free event takes place August 24-26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, at the Boatworks Marina Green in Tahoe City.

Among this year’s featured artists is Sharon Medler of Scotts Valley, California, who has established herself as a well known West Coast artist. Sharon's brightly colored acrylics of sunflowers, adirondack chairs, landscapes and beach scenes are both real and imaginary, and her new series of roosters is drawing a lot of attention at shows around Northern California.

Sharon Medler RoosterJennifer Cull of Penn Valley, California who creates stone vases and sculptures carved using traditional hammers, chisels, rasps, riflers, and then polished by hand with sandpaper. Jennifer’s unique approach is designed to help keep the traditional methods and skills of stone carving alive. Her broad assortment of creations is designed to enhance the natural stone that she works with.

Bill Monaghan of El Dorado Hills, California paints outdoor and landscape images. All of his paintings are oil paint using a palette knife and done “en plein air” -- essentially painting outside in the open air, on location, to capture truer color and light. “My wife Kit and I love to go on scenic drives, whether it’s the local back roads or our annual two or more weeks trip to different areas and National Parks throughout the US and western Canada, always sketching, painting and takinglots of photos.”

Nathan Vaughan of Pollock Pines, California who creates furniture out of re-claimed lumber and barn wood. Nathan builds a variety of tables, wardrobes, chests, dressers, armoires, and custom mirrors. Nathan salvages lumber from sources including barns, historic mills, torn down fences and old houses and also incorporates metal and vintage hardware into his dressing mirrors and wall mirrors. “I am very resourceful and creative with my furniture and over time I have come up with a unique line that has a variation to every piece,” says Nathan.

Other artists participating include Dirk Yuricich of Stateline, Nevada who will be showcasing a variety of photos that feature the Lake Tahoe area; Gary Chappell of Nevada City, California with his handmade jewelry; and woodworker John Odenheimer and quilter Sue Odenheimer of Truckee.

Find It: The festival is held in an open grassy area overlooking Lake Tahoe between the Boatworks Mall and the Tahoe City Marina at 760 N. Lake Boulevard right off Highway 28 in Tahoe City.
