As we roll into weekend #2 of the 29th Annual Snowfest, Tahoetopia offers an inside guide with some thoughts about to where to go and what to do throughout the ten-day Snowfest celebration.

Friday, March 12th
NEW! Snowman Building Contest - Help put Kings Beach Snowman census on the map! Join Kings Beach's Library's 1st Annual Snowman building contest. Different age groups and FUN categories…so everyone can win some prizes and celebrate the "Happiest Time in Tahoe". Start a team or go solo. Open to all ages. Rules and categories posted at the Library in Kings Beach. 301 Secline St. 3:30 - 4:30pm.

NEW! Prohibition Pub Crawl - Join the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society for its first annual Tahoe City Prohibition Pub Crawl! This event runs from 4-9pm, commencing at the Bridgetender Bar & Grill, where you will pick up your speakeasy passwords, and visit participating gin mills and speakeasies for old-time drink specials. Learn about the Lake Tahoe area's lawless past while enjoying Tahoe City's current watering holes. 4-9pm.

Joe King Poker Tournament - Kings Beach came to be in 1925 when Joe King allegedly acquired the land after an all-night poker game. Joe took his poker winnings to develop Kings Beach from 5 small cabins to a flourishing funky beach town. Relive the 1920's and try your luck at becoming the Honorary Mayor of Kings Beach at the 3rd Annual Joe King Poker Tournament (Texas Hold-em tournament).

Saturday, March 13th
NEW! Sugar Bowl's "Silver Belt Banzai" - Ski-Cross action meets Downhill speed in the silver belt Banzai, pitting X Racers at a time down the silver belt gully in it's signature event, with the first three down advancing to the next round. Join the likes of Daron Rahlves and Errol Kerr and test your mettle! All Day. Sugar Bowl Resort, on Donner Summit.

Dress Up Your Dog Contest'- A local’s favorite is back this year, sponsored by the Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Mgmt Association. The dress up your dog contest will have several categories this year, along with a Grand prize doing to the “Best Dressed Transit Dog”! Come bring your pooch and support this fun event! North Tahoe Event Center, Kings Beach. 10am.

2nd Annual Ta-Hoe Nalu "Arctic Standup Paddleboard Race" - Come on out and get your chill on for this annual SnowFest event! A 1 mile Stand-Up Paddle Sprint Race, on Lake Tahoe….and YES, in March!! Make sure to stick around afterwards for the festivities including music by the Truckee Tribe! Ages-18 +. Paddling takes place on the beach at the intersection of Hwy 267 and North Lake Blvd. After-party at the Blue Onion Cafe. 11am.

Kings Beach 'Winter Fun Snowfest Parade- Come out for the SnowFest! Closing Weekend Parade, presented by the North Tahoe Business Association. This parade has grown tons in the past few years and is definitely not something to be missed. Lots of color, beads, and fun to be had by all! 11:30am through Kings Beach on the main drag.

Sunday, March 14th - Daylight Savings Time begins! Turn your clocks ahead!
NEW! The "Alaskan Open" - Tee off in the middle of winter in the Four Man (or woman) scramble! Strap on your snowshoes and whip out your driver! Who said you can't play golf in the sierra's in the winer time. Get together a team of 4 and compete in this Winter Challenge. 11am. Tahoe City Golf Course.

22nd Annual "Snow Sculpture Contest" - Twelve invited teams build themed snow sculptures to be judged! Prizes awarded to the best teams. There is definitely some creativity going on at this one! Everyone looks forward to this final day event! Live music, BBQ & drink specials. River Ranch Lodge. Hwy 89 at Alpine Meadows Rd. Noon-5pm.

Tahoe Cross Country Gourmet Ski Tour - The 9th Annual Gourmet Ski Tour takes place today at the Tahoe XC Center! This great event entails x-country skiing or snowshoeing along the trails while sampling food from the finest North Shore Restaurants! This fabulous event finishes off at the Day Lodge with live music until 5pm, along with refreshments. Tahoe Cross Country. 1-3pm.
