Rahlves' Banzai Tour Off To High Energy Start
The 2011 Rahlves' Banzai Tour, the only event series of its kind in the U.S., got off to a hair-raising start during the Beaver Bowl Banzai held Jan 22-23 at Alpine Meadows. Newcomer Marcus Caston of Salt Lake City, Utah took first place in the Men's Ski Division.
This past Sunday, under sunny skies and warm temps, on a fast and firm race course that included challenging steeps, rollers and berms, all from the natural terrain, some of the best skiers and riders in the game gathered atop Alpine Meadows' Beaver Bowl for the first stop in the 2011 Rahlves' Banzai Tour.
124 skiers and riders competed in Saturday's qualifiers, which yielded 74 athletes to move on to Sunday's finals. Competitors and spectators alike were treated to a festive Banzai party at the River Ranch Lodge on Saturday evening that benefited the High Fives Foundation. Sunday's finals wrapped up with a celebratory finish corral where the winners in four divisions claimed their take of this first event's $10,000 purse.
