Opening Day: A Fun-Filled Weekend May 22-25
Summer officially kicks off in North Lake Tahoe Memorial Day Weekend with the 3rd Annual Opening Day at the Lake. This four-day special event begins Friday, May 22 and runs through Monday, May 25.
There is truly something for everyone with deck opening celebrations at Sunnyside Resort, West Shore Café and Bridgetender, openings and tours of the historical Vikingsholm Castle and Ehrman Mansion, guided museum tour of the Tahoe Maritime Museum along with activities for kids, live jazz on the deck at the West Shore Café, open house and bingo party at the Rideout Community Center, Olympic Heritage fund-raiser and swing band at Granlibakken Resort, dedication for the Olympic Events Museum at Sugar Pine Point State Park, as well as the popular Mike Brown Seaplane Splash-In and BBQ.
The West Shore's heritage is a centerpiece of the action. This year, Granlibakken will host a swing dance on Saturday night in a benefit for the coming Olympic Heritage Celebration, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Olympic Winter Games, and the nordic events that were held in Tahoma. In addition, a dedication ceremony will be held on Sunday for the new Olympic Events Museum at Sugar Pine Point State Park.
Visitors attending Opening Day at the Lake can get an event passport stamped to qualify for numerous prizes and gift certificates (15 stamps minimum), including a one-hour jet ski rental at High Sierra Waterski, $200 savings bond from Bank of the West, two-night stay at Granlibakken Resort and dinner for two at Sunnyside Resort. Participants drop off their completed passport to any listed location by June 6. Winners are drawn June 15 and notified by phone.
