Northstar Previews New 22-Foot Superpipe

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Jan. 11, 2013 – The 22-Foot Superpipe at Northstar California Resort will open to the public for the first time this season on Saturday, January 12, offering a preview of the Tahoe region’s only 22-Foot Superpipe designed by Northstar team rider Shaun White. The 22-Foot Superpipe is located on the Cat’s Face trail, and can be accessed from the Vista Express chairlift.

Following the public preview day on Saturday, the Superpipe will be closed through Sunday, January 20 while Northstar hosts the U.S. Revolution Tour. In its ninth season, the U.S. Revolution Tour is a three-stop tour featuring halfpipe, slopestyle and cross events for both freeskiing and snowboarding athletes. This event awards the top juniors an invite to be part of the U.S. Grand Prix, Junior Worlds, the U.S. Open, USASA Nationals and participate in Project Gold camps.

“Not only are we excited to offer our guests access to the 22-Foot Superpipe Shaun White trains on, but we’re bringing back our 18-Foot Superpipe as well,” said Mike Schipani, Northstar’s terrain park manager. “The snow has been incredible so far this season, along with snowmaking temperatures that have allowed us to make the amount of snow needed to build both pipes. We’re stoked to be able to offer both the 22’ and the 18’ up for our guests to ride so early in the season.”

In addition to the 22-Foot competition size Superpipe, Northstar also plans to open its 18-Foot Superpipe again this season, located on the Pipeline trail which can be easily viewed from the mid-mountain area and the Big Springs Day Lodge. The 18-Foot Superpipe is expected to be open within the next week.

Northstar consistently ranks among the top parks in the nation by the readers of Transworld SNOWboarding, SKI magazine and other publications, and continues to design its parks and pipes in conjunction with long-time partner Snow Park Technologies.
