VIDEO: Tram Face Event Postponed & Relocated
Safety concerns prior to the start of the Nissan Tram Face event Sunday, have lead organizers to postpone the day's event, and move it to a new location for Monday.
A crowd had gathered in the Palisades Tahoe parking lot early Sunday morning hoping to see what amounts to a monumental occasion - the opening of the off-limits area known as the Tram Face for a special event, the Freeride World Tour's Nissan Tram Face competition. However, following a further assessment of the conditions, as well as a surprise snow slide that wowed spectators, the event was canceled for the day due to safety concerns.
According to a Palisades Tahoe USA Facebook post posted shortly after the decision, organizers were concerned that "the snow pack was too dangerous for the athletes", and "safety is always paramount."
"The snowpack on the lower portion of the face was just too firm to safely hold a competition like this," said Nicolas Hale-Woods, the Founder and Director of the Freeride World Tour. "It was not melting as quickly as we had hoped."
Organizers plan to move the event to Silverado Bowl, an alternate location where the event is now scheduled to take place on Monday. Last year's event, which was also moved due to the conditions on the Tram Face, was held in Silverado. The Monday event, once confirmed, will start at 8:30am.
