Music Festival Kicks Into High Gear

The Lake Tahoe Music Festival begins its summer concert series July 22 with America – 40th Anniversary Tour at the intimate West End Beach venue at Donner Lake. Two weeks of exceptional concerts follow at venues around the region.

America - 40th Anniversary Tour - July 22, 2010
7 p.m., West End Beach at Donner Lake
Hosted at the intimate West End Beach at Donner Lake, the concert brings together Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell for an evening of hits including their signature song, “A Horse With No Name.”

Broadway's Best with Debbie Gravitte and the Orchestra Academy - July 24, 2010
7 p.m., Tahoe Donner
Vibrant vocals and magnetic stage presence are the trademarks of one of Broadway's biggest personalities, Debbie Gravitte. A Tony Award-winner for her performance in “Broadway,” Gravitte’s career has been varied, taking her from the bright lights of Broadway, around the world and back again. She returns to Lake Tahoe after her smash performance at the festival’s 2009 Benefactor Concert for our “Best of Broadway” concert.

Strictly Classical - "Music in the Key of D" - July 28, 2010
6 - 7 p.m., Granlibakken Conference Center and Lodge
Join us for Strictly Classical –Intimate Evenings with the Lake Tahoe Music Festival, special hour-long evening concerts hosted on the lawn at Granlibakken Conference Center and Lodge. “Music in the Key of D” features principal Cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Jerry Grossman along with the Orchestra Academy. Music selections include Haydn Cello Concerto in D (Jerry Grossman, soloist), Bruch Canzone (Jerry Grossman, soloist) and Vorisek Symphony in D. Tickets are limited to 225 for this concert.

Simply Sinatra with Steve Lippia and the Orchestra Academy - July 29, 2010
7 p.m., Old Greenwood
This year we’re taking our Orchestra Night on a swingin’ ride…straight to the “sing era” of the 40s and 50s with “Simply Sinatra” starring vocalist Steve Lippia. He'll belt out tunes including "My Way," "New York New York" and "Mack the Knife," just to name a few. The festival’s Orchestra Academy, complete with 36 of the nation’s top student musicians round out the evening’s billing.

An Evening with Wynonna - July 31, 2010
7 p.m., Northstar-At-TahoeTM Resort
You asked for it in our annual survey and we listened! Join us for our first country concert starring Wynonna in a charismatic live show highlighting more than two decades of hits. Featuring songs from her 7th studio album, “Sing: Chapter1,” the evening showcases honest tales that speak to the heart and classic American songs of love, loss and survival all wrapped in with a little rock, folk, gospel, R&B and blues along the way.

Natalie Cole - August 5, 2010
7 p.m., Northstar-At-TahoeTM Resort
Combining R&B, jazz and pop sounds this nine-time Grammy Award-winner is an unstoppable force in music. Fans were touched by her “Unforgettable” duet with father Nat “King” Cole on 1991’s “Unforgettable…With Love,” and were equally enthralled by her 2008 release, “Still Unforgettable,” and 2009’s “Let’s Talk About Love.” It all takes place at Northstar-At-TahoeTM Resort mid-mountain in a gently sloping bowl and overlooking a breathtaking view of mountains and valley below.

Michael McDonald - August 7, 2010
7 p.m., Northstar-At-TahoeTM Resort
The festival’s summer concert series goes out with a dose of blue-eyed soul thanks to Michael McDonald performing August 7 at Northstar-At-Tahoe Resort. Honing his signature style while playing with the Doobie Brothers, McDonald’s laid-back California-style pop and rock is instantly recognizable and has won him a legion of adoring fans.
