Monophonics Grow Organic Funk at Final Rail Jam Thursday

The Bay Area music scene has been setting standards for many decades. The Monophonics are another prime example of the talent spewing forth from the streets of San Francisco and surrounding areas. Since forming in 2005, The Monophonics have evolved into SF Weekly's "Best of the Bay" winners for their retro sound, style, and approach.

"Monophonics has been stirring quite the buzz throughout the Bay Area over the last few years with their organic seven piece funk outfit that sends the dance floor into a fury with their horn section that never disappoints."  Jambase.com

The Monophonics’ sound, a unique blend of old school soul/funk and rare groove, began in the summer of 2005 when drummer Austin Bohlman was asked to bring together "The funkiest players you know" to open for the legendary jam band, Vinyl at San Francisco’s historic Boom Boom Room. Since then, Monophonics have quickly evolved into one of hottest upcoming live instrumental funk bands in the Bay Area.

Recognized for their retro sound, style, and approach (primarily inspired by late 60’s and early 70’s artists like The Meters, The J.B.’s, The Crusaders, and Tower of Power) members of Monophonics continue to rep. the name through performances, sit-ins, and collaborations with local and touring acts in The Bay Area. The Monophonic Horns have performed with Russell Batiste and his Orchestra from Da Hood (members of Galactic, Papa Grows Funk, The Funky Meters) and recorded for Eric Krasno (Soulive/Lettuce).

Members of the rhythm section are involved in a collaborative turntabalism/live music project with Bay Area DJ Crew, 4OneFunk, called 4OnePhonics. Their musical intelligence and funky sound has landed them guest appearances by saxophonist Karl Denson, vocalist Marcus Scott, and Tower of Power's own Mic Gillette on their second album, due to release this year.

Crystal Bay's Rail Jam Thursdays are sponsored by Diamond Peak, Tahoe Dave's, and Tahoe TV, and hosted by Tahoe TV's vivacious Kerry 'KT' Todd. The party starts at 9pm, with drink specials, lift ticket giveaways, and ski and board movies on CBC's numerous screens. Live music starts at 10pm.
