Legendary Ski Filmmaker Showcases 'Legend of Aahhhs' Tonight

Filmmaker Greg Stump, who introduced a new genre of ski films with “Blizzard of Aahhhs” in the late 1980s, brings his new semi-autobiographical film “Legend of Aahhhs’ to Palisades Tahoe on Friday, November 2.

Preceding the showing of the movie, Stump will join legendary skier Scot Schmidt, and current freeskiing cream of the crop athlete Timy Dutton for a panel discussion moderated by Squallywood author, pro skier and sports psychiatrist, Dr. Robb Gaffney.  The event takes place at Olympic Village Lodge in Palisades Tahoe, with a no-host reception beginning at 6:30 p.m., and the panel discussion followed by film showing beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $10 for Palisades Tahoe Institute members and $15 for the general public.

Through a semi-autobiographical approach, Stump’s latest work explores the history of the ski film and how these films influenced big mountain skiing and pop culture.  “Blizzard of Aaahhs” which was released in 1988 and featured Scot Schmidt, Glen Plake and Mike Hattrup, is widely regarded as the best ski film of all time, and has influenced filmmakers from powerhouse ski and boarding productions companies including Matchstick Productions to Teton Gravity Research (TGR).  The film is also credited with launching the extreme sports movement.

In conjunction with Palisades Tahoe Institute, Truckee’s Start Haus and KTKE 101.5 are collaborating sponsors of this exclusive event.

For advance online ticket purchase, and for more information, visit www.squawvalleyinstitute.org.  General public may also purchase in person at the Start Haus in Truckee.
