Follow Locals' Antarctic Expedition on Tahoetopia

Several Tahoe skiers and adventurers embarked on a dynamic expedition of Antarctica this week. Tahoetopia.com will publish exclusive updates and coverage throughout the expedition.

Led by Palisades Tahoe skier and world adventurer Doug Stoup, the 110 person team is scheduled to depart from Ushuaia, Argentina Nov 5, 2009 and will sail across the roughest seas in the world, the Drake Passage, to the Arctic Peninsula.

"I am truly looking forward to showing so many friends the beauty, wildlife and awesome skiing of the Antarctic Peninsula," said Stoup, who is on his 19th visit to the 7th continent.

During the trip, the group will be hiking and skiing the virgin peaks that come right out of the water along the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Palisades Tahoe skier, Tahoe local, and Journalist Robert "Fro" Frolich, and photographer Keoki Flagg will be providing content to Tahoetopia and Tahoe TV throughout the expedition, offering Tahoetopia readers a chance to follow the adventurers as they ski and snowboard the last frontier.

"We look forward to sharing our journey with folks in Tahoe," continued Stoup. "It will be great pre-ski season training and we all look forward to making turns with you all soon when we return."

The expedition's crew consists of numerous Tahoe locals, including Kevin and Jessica Quinn, Tom Waclo, Glenn and Russel Poulsen, Tal Fletcher, Kip Garre, Jason Mack, CJ Ware, Keoki Flaqgg, John Morrison, Elizabeth Rogers, Ming Poon, Tucker Patton, Jeremy Jones, Scott Flint, Dick Banfield, Reb Forte, Nancy Bartuch, Fred and Barbara Ilfield, John Wilcox, Karyn Stanley, Joel Baier, Cathleen Cohen, Meaghan Wheeler, Tom Day, Greg Martin, Mattais Sullivan, Ralph Backstrom, Tim Conrad, Adrian Benson, Jeff Lampert, Cybil Fisher and skiers and boarders Xavier DeLarue, Andrew Mclean, John Griber, and Kristen Ulmer.
