COUNTDOWN BEGINS: 50th Anniversary of 1960 Games

The season’s events will culminate with the 10-day Olympic Heritage Celebration, scheduled for January 8-17, 2010, prior to the 2010 Olympic Games being held in February in Vancouver, British Columbia. Planned events will include races, celebrations, parades, interpretive tours, reenactments, and more.

“North Lake Tahoe’s Olympic heritage runs deep and the flame is burning bright,” explained Eric Brandt, one of the committee members. “This season-long celebration will reflect the spirit and legacy of the 1960 Games in our communities.”

Organizers have been formulating plans for the celebration for over a year. A gala fundraising event, ‘Raising the Rings,’ is planned for February 6-8 of this year (2009).

In addition to the Olympic anniversary, the 2009-2010 winter season will start with the 60th anniversary of the founding of Palisades Tahoe in November, 1949.

The Olympic Heritage Celebration will also be a major awareness and fundraising component for the planned Palisades Tahoe Olympic and Winter Sports Museum, currently in the planning stages.

The Olympic Heritage Celebration is being organized by the Olympic Heritage Celebration Committee. For more information about the celebration and the museum, visit 1960WinterOlympics.com
