Figure Skating: Michelle Kwan
In other Olympic news, Michelle Kwan was given a green light to go for gold in the Winter Games by the U.S. Figure Skating Association. On Friday Kwan skated for the officials in an otherwise empty rink in California in a last-ditch effort to show that she is fit to compete. She had pulled out of the national championships with a groin injury.

Kwan's fate has kept many fans on edge, but her spirals, jumps, and spins convinced the panel she was ready to go to her third Olympics. Women's figure skating is a major TV event; according to the New York Times over 30 million households watched Sara Hughes win the gold in 2002 games.
