Truckee Time Lapse - July 4th Parade/Thunderstorm - July 4, 2015
The Truckee July 4th parade, a major annual event that draws thousands from near and far, was cut short by a flashy and powerful midday summer thunderstorm. The Truckee Cam, atop the historic Truckee Hotel, streamed the action live to the world, and also captured this dynamic time-lapse video of the day, the parade, thunderstorm and more.
As you'll see, barely half-way through the parade, the storm rolled in, gaining intensity as organizers, floats and parade goers stood steadfast. When the lightning strikes grew closer, thunderclaps more intense, and heavy rain began to fall, the well-organized event was forced to abandon ship. Spectators fled, to their cars or nearby shelter inside businesses along the historic downtown row.
In a short time, the storm cell moved on, the streets dried, and normal activity returned. But the parade had "left the building".
For locals and visitors alike, the spirits wouldn't be dampened, however as the celebration continued. The Truckee Cam, Tahoe TV/Tahoetopia's live streaming webcam located atop the historic Truckee Hotel (home to Moody's Bistro), captured this dramatic time-lapse video of the scene, from early morning to late night on July 4th, 2015.
