TRTA Specialty Snowshoe Hikes in 2012

The TRTA is offering free specialty snowshoe hikes this winter that you don’t want to miss! Please register online for these unique hikes, as space is limited.

Full Moon Snowshoe Treks – These gentle treks are for TRTA members, and they will travel a short distance from the upper Tahoe Meadows to a lovely ridge that overlooks the meadow, Slide Mountain and Ophir Creek. The TRTA will provide hot drinks and goodies for participants!

Sweetheart Sunset Hike – Take your sweet someone on a snowshoe date on Valentine’s Day! The TRTA will guide couples to a lovely ridge that overlooks Lake Tahoe at Sunset. We will wine and dine, while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Tahoe Basin. Wine and cheese will be provided by the TRTA.

St. Patrick’s Day Snowshoe Search for the Pot ‘o Gold – Tahoe Mountain Sports is sponsoring this unique family day in the snow. Bring the family out and use avalanche beacons and GPS units to search for some buried treasure. Prizes for everyone!

Winter Camping 101

“Waking up the morning after snow camping, I unzip my frosted tent and feel the crisp morning air swirl around me. I quickly pull on my down puffy and step down into my dry boots waiting for me at the front of my tent. I hear the voices of other campers, pulling themselves reluctantly from their warm sleeping bags, getting ready to join the group around hot mugs of coffee and cocoa, to enjoy a bright blue bird day of snowshoeing and new friends.”

This is how snow camping ought to be: challenging, invigorating and enjoyable. This year, our overnight Winter Camping 101 course will run on February 25th – 26th. Join us to learn how to approach your winter camping activities safely and comfortably. Our experienced guides will teach you the fundamentals of winter weather, trip planning, winter Leave No Trace, cooking and keeping warm. Register today!

We encourage participants to register in advance for this event. Online registration can be completed on the TRTA website at www.tahoerimtrail.org. For more information call 775-298-0012 or email Jaime at jaimes@tahoerimtrail.org
