No matter whether you’re just getting into the sport of Biathlon, or you’re a seasoned pro, Northstar-at-Tahoe™ Resort offers seven open range days throughout this winter season where you can come and practice your skills.  The cost to be on the range is $15 and a trail pass or season pass is also required.  Participants must bring their own riffle and ammunition.  Participants should be prepared to cross-country ski approximately 5k roundtrip to and from the biathlon range.  You should be an intermediate skier to participate in these clinics.  If you are new to cross-country skiing we recommend signing up for a private Biathlon lesson to get the most out of your experience.

Requirements

  • There is a minimum of 4 participants and maximum of a 10 participants per open range day.
  • All participants must sign an Auburn Ski Club safety agreement and a Northstar at Tahoe biathlon waiver.
  • All participants must have a Red Book Certification to participate.  You can receive this by taking one of our Biathlon Certification Classes, all offered on the same dates as the Open Range Days.

Details

On the mornings of the Open Range Days, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort will provide a shuttle bus from the Castle Peak Parking Lot to mid-mountain at 9:00 a.m.  Participants are required to bring their own rifles and will be allowed to take their rifles on the shuttle, while ammunition will be driven up separately by a Northstar employee.  Participants will also be required to transport their rifles in a soft case with a window, open bolt with bore flag. Once you arrive at mid-mountain you will ski out to the Biathlon Range which is approximately a 2.5K distance one way.  Please wear breathable, waterproof, wicking layers, light gloves that you can keep on while operating the rifle and plenty of sunscreen.  You may also want to bring additional layers to wear on the range after skiing out.  After the Open Range Day is complete, participants will be shuttled back to the Castle Peak Parking Lot at 1:30pm.

Rifles are NOT allowed in the Village so please be aware that you must abide by the gun procedure and shuttle schedule and failure to do so will result in loss of biathlon privileges.
