7:30 PM - 9:30 PM.  Come explore thrilling arctic vistas with the Reno Pops Orchestra in their "Northern Lights" concert on Friday, March 11, 2011.  This family-friendly concert will include a multimedia presentation combining breathtaking arctic footage by the Fleischmann Planetarium with inspirational music written by some of the world's most famous composers from Northern Europe and Russia.  This special program will also include movie scores from The Titanic and Dr. Zhivago as well as from the Finnish classic, The Snow Queen, and PBS favorite, The Snowman.  Local artists will round out the evening's entertainment: Robyn Neidhold will perform Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations for Cello and Orchestra;  Jennifer Gourley will sing "My Heart Shall Go On" from The Titanic; and the Nevada Opera Children's Chorus in company with Steven Meyer will perform music from Howard Blake's The Snowman, Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Snowflakes, and a soaring version of Kopangen, a Norwegian folk song made famous by Norwegian phenomenon Sissel Kyrkjebø.  Traditional composers represented on this unique and inspirational concert will be Antonín Dvořák, Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.  In addition we will explore music by film composers Jukka Linkola and Uuno Klami.
