Families and friends can snuggle up under the stars while enjoying new releases and family classics on the big screen in the Events Plaza at The Village at Squaw Valley. A different movie shows every summer Thursday starting July 7. All movies start at 8:30pm, weather permitting. Blankets and warm clothes are recommended.
This pyrotechnic exhibition explodes over Lake Tahoe after dusk and features a variety of patterns, shapes and designs. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30pm. The fireworks are visible from all over town.
The 29th Annual Alpen Wine Fest includes wine tasting, live music, a silent auction and raffle. Entry into the event is a donation to Can Do MS, a foundation providing wellness and education for people with Multiple Sclerosis. With the donation, attendees receive a crystal souvenir wine glass and tastings from over 40 vineyards.
The mission of the Great Reno Balloon Race is to provide a premier, safe, family-oriented/tourist-attractive, visually dramatic event that celebrates the joy of flight while remaining free to the public.
The Great Reno Balloon Race is the largest free hot-air ballooning event in the world. During three days in early September, you can look up into the Reno skies and see a rainbow of hot air balloons soaring about. From its humble beginnings in 1982 with just 20 balloons, The Great Reno Balloon Race has taken flight with up to 100 balloons each year. The idea was to create an event that would keep visitors in town the weekend between the State Fair and the Reno Air Races and 35 years later, it is known as a world-renowned, and locally, a beloved community tradition.
Taking place just a few miles north of downtown Reno, the event enchants both young and old with its vibrant colors and inspiring music. The Balloon Race has won many awards over the years including ‘Best Special Event in Reno’ and ‘Best Special Event in Northern Nevada.’ With an average of 120,000 spectators attending the event each year, the number of lives touched by the beautiful spectacle continues to rise just like the balloons themselves.
Camels, ostriches and zebras make a fine spectacle to watch as they race around the Virginia City Arena & Fairgrounds with jockeys precariously perched on their backs. It’s a sight you won’t see anywhere else. Bring the family out to enjoy this hilarious family event, a true staple in northern Nevada. After the races, join the Camel Hump to C Street where thirsty camels have been known to duck into a bar or two.

The 2017 Tahoe Cup Paddle Race Series wraps up with the 'Tahoe Fall Classic', a 22-mile point-to-point race from El Dorado Beach in South Lake Tahoe, across the entire lake, ending in Tahoe Vista at Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort on the North Shore. The Fall Classic Race is the longest inland distance paddleboard race in the world.
A battle of epic proportions! 6 restaurants and 5 bands will go head-to-head in The Village at Squaw Valley to benefit the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS). Each restaurant will be cooking their own signature recipes for spicy, flavor-packed chicken wings, and joining forces with the region’s best bands to crank the contest to the max. Chicken and music lovers are not going to want to miss a single stop on this around-the-valley face off. Entry is $5 donation.

“One of America’s Most Scenic Trail Runs” – Competitor Magazine Defined by both the incredible beauty of Lake Tahoe and the towering peaks of the High Sierra, Lake Tahoe is one of the world’s most famous sporting playgrounds. The region has an almost endless variety of spectacular mountain biking trails, adventurous hikes and, of course, waterborne activities on the “Big Blue” – Lake Tahoe – one of the largest, deepest and purest alpine lakes on earth. The Emerald Bay Trail Run starts at Eagle Point and then takes you around Emerald Bay and up the Rubicon Trail to D.L. Bliss State Park to finish at Lester Beach. The course is a 7 mile/11Km (approximate) point to point route. The course is fast with low/moderate climbing.
For the first time in Spartan history, the Reebok Spartan Race World Championship will take place at legendary Squaw Valley, just a short distance from Lake Tahoe and only 30 minutes from Reno, NV. The most anticipated obstacle racing weekend of the year will feature three Spartan Race distances to choose from over two days of racing: The Spartan Beast, the Spartan Ultra Beast and the Spartan Sprint.
