As the summer season is fast approaching we celebrate its beginning each year on the West Shore during Memorial Day Weekend with the Opening Day at the Lake annual event. Through deck opening parties at several restaurants, live music, scavenger hunts, BBQs, historic tours, and so much more, the West Shore is the place to be during your long weekend!!

Lake Tahoe is ready and open for summer! Time to open up summer cabins, put the boats in the water and get a jump on summer activities. Pick up (or download – link coming soon) an ‘Opening Day Passport’ at a participating business/location and receive stamps at each participating business you visit. When your Passport is filled, turn it in for a prize.

Opening Day at the Lake’s jam-packed weekend includes a wide variety of events and activities:

  • Deck/patio opening celebrations at Sunnyside Resort, Jake’s On The Lake, West Shore Café, Chambers Landing Bar & Restaurant and Bridgetender
  • West Shore Clean Up Day
  • Opening of Meeks Bay Resort & Marina
  • The opening of Tahoe City’s Tahoe Gal (Mississippi paddlewheeler)
  • Tahoe Sailing Charters’ opening weekend
  • Tahoe Tree Company annual Truck-Load Sale of perennials and shrubs.
  • Season openings and tours of the historical Vikingsholm Castle and Ehrman Mansion
  • Guided museum tours at the Tahoe Maritime Museum
  • Open house at the Rideout Community Center
  • Historic walking tours at Tahoe City’s Gatekeeper’s Museum
  • Mike Brown Seaplane Splash-In and Community BBQ at Obexer’s General Store

America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride

Nearly 3,000 cyclists from throughout the United States come to Tahoe to ride around the Lake. 

Bike the West and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invite you to participate in the 26th annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, one of the most scenic and awe-inspiring rides you will ever experience. Spectacular scenery, clean mountain air, great food and fully supported by experienced ride organizers makes this ride is a ‘must do’ for any avid recreational bicyclist.  Please check their equipment policy for restrictions or approval.

 Join us in the heart of Tahoe City to celebrate the beginning of summer at The Tahoe City Solstice Festival. In addition to Tahoe City’s distinctive charms – including convenient lake access, acclaimed artists, fabulous restaurants and notable shops and galleries you can celebrate summer at the Thursday Farmers Market, Solstice Stroll Classic Car Show on Friday, Saturday Tahoe City Wine Walk and Sunday’s Concert at Commons Beach are annual Solstice Festival highlights.

The Tahoe City Solstice Festival, June 15-18, may be the best place to celebrate Father’s Day at the lake. Many people take the opportunity to shop and wrap up the day with dinner in Tahoe City. It’s going to be a great Solstice Weekend in Tahoe City!

Enjoy all of the fan favorites including; two world-class team roping events, professional bull riding, team roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bronc riding. The exciting western action features an authentic cattle drive, parade, Double R Marketplace for western shopping, food, carnival and Mutton Bustin’.   

The "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West," the Reno Rodeo is a 10-day event. The Reno Rodeo is a PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) sanctioned sporting event. Reno Rodeo is a non-profit organization made up over 500 volunteers. Over 140,000 fans will be in attendance for the 4th richest PRCA tour rodeo. The event impacts the Reno/Sparks area economy with $42 million going to hotels, casinos, restaurants and retail. The Reno Rodeo has been nationally televised on CBS Sports, Fox Sports Net, Versus, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Classic.

The Village at Squaw Valley is paying tribute to man – and woman’s – best friend with the 8th Annual Peaks and Paws Festival. Dogs and their Masters can enjoy 2 days of live music, delicious food, and wine and beer tasting (people only!) amid Squaw Valley’s stunning mountain setting. The festival also includes a dog-friendly guided hike up the mountain, an array of specialty product pet vendors and a dock jumping competition with Splash Dogs. All of the proceeds from the festival will benefit the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe

The 11th Annual Music on the Beach, a free outdoor concert series, will be held on consecutive Friday evenings, 6-8:30pm at Kings Beach State Recreation Area. The concert series will feature nine concerts starting June 30 through September 1, excluding August 11.

Beerfest & Bluegrass Festival will take place in the Village at Northstar on Friday, July 2nd, 2017, from 3pm – 6:30pm. The festival will include beer tastings from numerous breweries and two premier bluegrass bands. Breweries will be featured on the Village Overlook, and guests who purchase a ticket will receive a commemorative pint glass and be able to sample all the different beers. There will also be non-alcoholic beverages and a tasty barbecue available for purchase, as well as seating and games on the village rink the whole family can enjoy.

Be one of the lucky ones by celebrating our country’s birthday at Tahoe City’s 72nd annual 4th of July Fireworks Show!  The festivities will begin as a fun family beach day in Tahoe City leading up to the biggest, brightest and most dazzling firework show to date! Enjoy the lake all day long with food & activities taking place on Commons Beach and throughout town.
